Christian Art Decor - Jesus In The Arts
Christian Art Décor can be defined as the use of Christian images and symbols expressed in fine arts to decorate the house or any place for that matter. This is important for the development and expression of faith to the believer.
Christian art has been in existence in the early centuries after Christ’s death and has been contemporaneous within the places that early believers of The Way gather. In Rome, the sarcophagus of important persons in the faith were sculpted with images of the life to come for those who believe as promised by Jesus, that of the good shepherd and the lamb and the cross.
These Christian images, as much as they form part and parcel to worship and spirituality, were elaborately carried on for generations in the freedom that they enjoyed after the period of Christian persecution. Important buildings such as chapels and cathedrals are standing examples of how Christian art has given wings to the imagination of artisans as the Spirit inspires them.
Important figures have been sculpted to represent the person that they worship such as those of statues of Jesus and his mother that are present in a house of prayer or worship. They have become symbols of faith and trust to believers who wish to follow their examples.
Christian art décor however, goes beyond the selected images of persons in the early Christian history because of the rich imagery and symbols that Jesus and his teachings offer. The lamb, the candle, the vine, the wine, and the bread are all symbolisms of the significant acts that Jesus came to be for Christian theology.
